The Path to Sustainability
As a responsible design company, we are committed to constantly reassessing the part we play in creating a more sustainable fashion industry and we are passionate about maintaining a sustainable approach across all aspects of our business. This includes the practices within our headquarters, our manufacturing processes and the distribution and delivery of our products to you: the customer.
There is much more to be done, but we are eager to share the progress we have already made and our plans for the future. Keep an eye for more information as we move towards a more sustainable future.
Natural & Organic Fabrics
You may have already spotted the “Certified Organic Cotton” label attached to products by The Motley Goat: a minimum of 87% of all our products has been produced using sustainable materials and particularly organic cotton. We’re proud of our organic cotton T-shirts, sweatshirts, long-sleeves and sweatpants, as well as our recycled polyester backpacks, towels and dresses. Plus, we have been working hard to introduce more sustainable materials into our range of new products.
But we know we can always do better. That’s why we are committed to reviewing and improving our production processes each season, so you will be able to find more “Certified Organic Cotton” labeled products in your nearest “The Motley Goat” retailer in the future.
Eco-friendly Production
All our products are digitally printed. Here are some interesting reasons why our digital fabric printing process is environmentally friendly:
- Digital printing is more eco-friendly than the traditional screen-printing methods as we only use the exact amount of ink needed to print our designs. So there’s no wastage.
- Printing digitally offers a greener advantage compared to screen-printing which has more chemical waste.
- Digital textile printing eliminates the substantial amount of water and electricity required for screen preparation, printing and clean-ups.
- Nevertheless, all dyes and inks used to make our products are water-based and eco-friendly.
The Motley Goat sandals have been handcrafted by skilled registered artisans, using environmentally-friendly techniques during their fabrication: no synthetic substances are used and all possible waste is streamed to recycling purposes.
Supply Chain
An important part of improving sustainability is working with reliable and accredited suppliers. At The Motley Goat, we are always looking for partners who uphold the highest standards in environmental and human welfare. All our products are Fair Trade and no child labour used.
At the same time, we’re constantly looking for new producers and suppliers who are developing more sustainable production processes and innovative new practices.
Reducing Waste & Going Green
We are committed to reducing the waste we produce, while ensuring that we recycle as much as possible. Our target is to be able to recycle all waste throughout our whole process, ensuring meanwhile that our partners have taken equal action in doing so.
That is why we’ve introduced a 100% recycled paper delivery package, while all of our packages are recycled and biodegradable – this includes the paper bags and the parcels, as well as the garment bags. This is the reason why we never use paper invitations and product catalogues. It’s also why we implement energy saving policies in our headquarters and The Showroom Space, while we only use wooden hangers instead of plastic ones.
Sustainability is a founding element of The Motley Goat’s identity and is deeply rooted in the Company’s strategy. The Motley Goat’s ambition to play a distinct role in the industry and beyond – by observing and interpreting the spirit of times – perfectly aligns with the growing demand for dialogue, transparency and more sustainable practices.
